Kawan Festival is an event, different from other festivals in Malaysia. This festival focuses on art, music, workshops and everything D.I.Y. The activities are focused towards the integration and unity amongst the different races in Malaysia, starting from the ages of 15 to 40. The main goal of this festival is to promote unity between the races in Malaysia and to promote a friendly environment for everyone to enjoy, hence the name Kawan Fest.
The ideas for the activities available in Kawan Fest was influenced by observing the Youth and their love for D.I.Y.(Do it yourself) culture, fine art, doodle drawings, music, indie short films, poetry and etc.
The 2 day festival consisting of workshops, live music, art showcases and etc, will be held at Zebra Square, Kuala Lumpur from 10.00am to 10.00pm for both days of the event. Some of the attractions of this event consists of the iM4U Kids Art Jamming, where 50 child orphans from the Ulu Kelang and Nursyaheera orphanage alongside iM4U volunteers to produce canvas art paintings, which will be on the second day of the event (31st of may) from 10.00am to 01.00pm.
Workshops such as the D.I.Y Owl Plush Toys (Emma Feltville), introduction to Pallet Wood Project (Kayanniaga) and many others will be done throughout the two days of the event. Participants that are interested to attend any of the workshops will be needed to register online on our official website,which is www.kawanfest.com, registration is limited to a first come first serve basis.
The creative themed bazaar, will be showcasing booths from 50 various young entrepreneurs, such as Last Dandelion, Owliet Crafthouse and many more. The collaboration with Pasar Boco will also result in promoting various book publishing indie companies such as Lejenpress, Pentas Maya, Pustaka Kolektif and many others.
Bazaar goers will be able to shop at these booths, while enjoying various art performances such as poetry and acoustic performances from named indie performers, that will be happening within the bazaar vicinity.
The Kawan Fest Concert features 2 stages, which is an electric stage and an acoustic stage. We received over 150 submissions for the electric and acoustic slots. Some of the bands/artists featured are locals heroes such Radhi OAG, Joe PV and Pure Vibracion, Hadi Jaafar (Laila’s Lounge) Y2k, Maddthelin, MASDO! and lots more. This festival also features new bands with original materials and releases. There is a good mix of new and veteran bands from the Malaysian music scene.
This festival will feature a guest band from Japan, called Yum! Yum! Orange, and will perform on 31st May 2015. This Ska band consists of 6 energetic musicians and have been performing since the late 90’s and have been going strong until now. The cover charge for the 2 day Music show is only rm 30 for 2 days and the audience will also receive a free gift.
