To set the mood for 2017, Astro Vinmeen HD (CH231) will showcase a series of fresh travelogue shows- My Journey and KL to Karikudi from 31^st December 2016.Malaysian street food show “Rasikka Rusikka” will also make a comeback with Season 3 with more ideas on where to get the best hawker fare treats in Malaysia.

My Journey– Premiering on 31/12/2016 (Every Saturday @9.30pm) – 13 episodes

2 Classic Car enthusiasts Rukshan Munesinghe and Manivannan Manikumaran take the journey of a lifetime in their Classic 1971 Ford Capri cruising through five countries, starting off from Malaysia to Thailand, Myanmar, India and lastly across the sea to Sri Lanka in a journey spanning 11,000 kilometres. And they carry the Malaysian spirit with them, giving out Malaysian flags and memorabilia in promoting the culture of harmony and inclusiveness we enjoy as a nation. This is the first of its find travelogue captured from a Malaysian perspective.

KL to Karaikudi – Premiering on 1/01/2016 (Every Sunday @9pm) – 39 episodes

KL to Karaikudi follows two adventurers, Malaysian Denes Kumar and Singaporean Nisha Wong, as they hit the road on a travel adventure like never before. Traversing through Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and India, they take on more than 7000km on a Royal Enfield Desert Storm Classic Bike.

Rasikka Rusikka (S3) – Premiering on 1/01/2016 (Every Sunday @9.30pm) – 13 episodes

Bala Ganapathy Williams is back in Season 3 with a new ride and persona in this travel foodie show that features some of the best places to get the most sought after Malaysian delicacies.  Running since 2014, this show in Tamil has garnered a unique following of viewers and has covered the best street food joints from Kedah to Johor!

Astro Ulagam is set to capture the 2016 Thaipusam celebration in its entire splendour and bring it to audiences worldwide with a 50-hour non-stop LIVE broadcast on Astro Ulagam website and Facebook page.

For the first time, audiences can catch the kaleidoscope of Thaipusam festival not only in Malaysia (Batu Caves-Kuala Lumpur, Thanneermalai-Penang and Kallumalai-Ipoh), but also in Sri Lanka (Nallur, Innuvil and Kathirkamam) and India (Palani) on Astro Ulagam from 22^nd to 24^th January 2016.

For the 2015 Thaipusam festival, a record number of audiences from Malaysia and countries such as India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, to name a few, tuned in to Astro Ulagam. Astro Ulagam garnered a 41.4 million Facebook reach and set a new entry in the Malaysia Book of Record as the ‘Highest Reach on Facebook for LIVE Streaming of Tamil Programme’. This year, Astro Ulagams aspires to set a Guinness World Record for the ‘Longest Uninterrupted LIVE Webcast (Video)’ with a 50-hour LIVE Streaming of the 2016 Thaipusam celebration. Scholars Dr. K.Thilagawathi and Kartheges Ponniah will also share the essence of “Thirumurugaatrupadai” with Astro Ulagam viewers during LIVE Streaming of Thaipusam 2016 celebrations.

Meanwhile, images posted on social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with hash tag #VetriVel2016 will be featured on Astro Ulagam website. They will also be displayed on Astro’s LED outdoor display screens in Batu Caves and Penang, allowing on-site audiences to be part of the global celebration.

Astro will also be setting up booths in Batu Caves and Penang during the festival for customers to learn more about Astro’s special promotions, including FREE PVR upgrade, complimentary shopping voucher for subscribing to selected packages and getting a second Astro set-top-box at home at a special price.

Astro subscribers can enjoy LIVE coverage of Thaipusam 2016 festival on Astro Vinmeen HD and Vaanavil channels with Professor Dr G. Gnanasambandam as scholarly commentator. In addition, Astro will be airing six episodes of a 30-minute ‘THIRUMURUGAATRUPADAI’ programme from 18^th to 23^rd January 2016. This programme features prominent religious speaker Suki Sivam and Desa Mangayarkarasi narrating Thirumurugaatrupadai, which highlights six abodes of Lord Murugan and the essence of Thaipusam celebration.

Astro Vinmeen HD, the first 24-hour HD Tamil general entertainment channel in South East Asia, has been launched on Singtel TV in Singapore on 1^st July 2015.

The successful launch of Astro Vinmeen HD on Singtel TV is the result of a distribution partnership between Astro and Singtel TV. Astro’s Vellithirai was the first Astro’s Tamil channel to be made available on Singtel last year. The partnership reaffirms the potential and demand of the Astro branded Tamil channels to be distributed in Tamil speaking markets internationally.
