Sony’s unmatched innovation within the image sensor space is at the forefront of the new α7 III, as it features a brand new 24.2MP¹ back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with increased sensitivity, outstanding resolution and an impressive 15 stops² of dynamic range at low sensitivities. By combining this sensor with a variety of impressive features including extreme AF coverage of 93%, fast shooting at up to 10 fps³ with either mechanical shutter or silent shooting⁴, diverse 4K⁵ video capabilities and more, Sony has created a new tool that gives all types of creators – from enthusiast to professional – the ability to capture content in new and different ways than they ever have before.

Spectacular Full-frame Image Quality

The newly developed 24.2MP¹ back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor is paired with a front-end LSI that effectively doubles the readout speed of the image sensor, as well as an updated BIONZ X™ processing-engine that boosts processing speed by approximately 1.8 times compared to the α7 II. These powerful components work together to allow the camera to shoot at faster speeds while also enabling its impressive ISO range of 100 – 51200 (expandable to ISO 50 – 204800 for still images) and an overall 1.5-stop[1] improvement in image quality. The camera also features a massive 15-stop² dynamic range at low sensitivity settings, ensuring outstanding overall performance at all settings and in all shooting conditions, with significant advancements in accurate colour reproductions of skin tones and the vibrant colours of nature.

This new full-frame model can also output 14 bit RAW format[2] even in silent and continuous shooting modes, and is equipped with a 5-axis optical image stabilisation system that results in a 5.0 step⁵ shutter speed advantage.

Significant Advances in AF Speed and Performance

The innovative new α7 III full-frame mirrorless camera features a level of AF performance that has been largely improved over the α7 II, including the addition of 4D FOCUS™ capabilities. The new camera has 425 contrast AF points that work with a 693-point focal-plane phase-detection AF system inherited from the acclaimed α9 model. This innovative AF system covers approximately 93% of the frame, ensuring reliable focusing and tracking for even the most difficult to capture subjects.

AF response and tracking has also been greatly improved in the new camera, with almost 2x⁹ the focusing speed in low-light condition and 2x² the tracking speed compared to the previous model as a result of the faster image sensor readout. This allows complex and unpredictable motion to be captured with far greater precision and accuracy.

The acclaimed Eye AF feature is also available in the new camera, even in AF-C mode, which is extremely useful for situations where the subject is turning around, looking down or otherwise obstructed. It also works when the α7 III is being used with Sony’s A-mount lenses with an optional LA-EA3 adaptor[1]. Additional improvements in focusing flexibility include the addition of a multi-selector or ‘joystick’ for moving focusing points quickly, the addition of touch focusing capability, AF availability in Focus Magnifier mode, an ‘AF On’ button and much more.

Speed to Capture Every Decisive Moment

The new α7 III is equipped with an updated image processing system that allows it to shoot full resolution images at up to 10 fps³ with continuous, accurate AF/AE tracking for up to 177 Standard JPEG images, 89 compressed RAW images or 40 uncompressed RAW images[1]. This high speed mode is available with either a mechanical shutter or a completely silent shooting⁴, adding to the immense flexibility of the camera. The camera can also shoot continuously at up to 8 fps³ in live view mode with minimal lag in the viewfinder or LCD screen.

For added convenience, while large groups of burst images are being written to the memory card, many of the cameras key functions are operable, including access to the ‘Fn’ (Function) and ‘Menu’ buttons, image playback and several other menus and parameters including image rating and other functions that facilitate on-location image sorting.

Additionally, if there is fluorescent or artificial lighting present in a shooting environment, users can activate the Anti-flicker[2] function to allow the α7 III to automatically detect frequency of the lighting and time the shutter to minimise its effect on images being captured. This minimises any exposure or colour anomalies that can sometimes occur at the top and bottom of images shot at high shutter speeds.

High Quality 4K⁶ Video

The new α7 III is an outstanding video camera as well, offering 4K⁶ (3840×2160 pixels) video recording across the full width of the full-frame image sensor. In video mode, the camera uses full pixel readout without pixel binning to collect about 2.4x[1] the amount of data required for 4K movies, and then oversamples it to produce high quality 4K footage with exceptional detail and depth.

An HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma)[2] picture profile is available on the α7 III as well, which supports an Instant HDR workflow, allowing HDR (HLG) compatible TV’s to playback beautiful, true-to-life 4K HDR imagery. Further, both S-Log2 and S-Log3 are available for increased colour grading flexibility, as well as Zebra functionality, Gamma Display assist and proxy recording. The camera can also record Full HD at 120 fps at up to 100 Mbps⁶, allowing footage to be reviewed and eventually edited into 4x or 5x slow motion video files in Full HD resolution with AF tracking.

Upgraded Build, Design and Customisation

Sony’s newest full-frame camera is equipped with a variety of enhanced capabilities that were first implemented in the α9 and then again in the α7R III. These include dual media slots, with support in one slot for UHS-II type SD memory cards. Users have a variety of options for storing their content in each of the cards, including separate JPEG / RAW recording, separate still image / movie recording, relay recording and more. Battery life has been greatly extended as well – with a CIPA measurement of up to 710 shots per charge⁸, it offers the world’s longest⁷ battery life of any Mirrorless camera, as the new camera utilises Sony’s Z series battery NP-FZ100 that offers approximately 2.2 times the capacity of the W series battery NP-FW50 utilised in the α7 II.

The new camera features “My Menu” functionality which allows up to 30 menu items to be registered for instant recall when needed. Users can also apply star ratings to their still images through the camera controls for easier image playback and review, and edit the first three characters of all still image files. Additionally, there is a total of 81 functions that are assignable to 11 custom buttons, and the camera is both dust and moisture resistant[3].

The α7 III features high-resolution, high-contrast, fast-start XGA OLED Tru-Finder™ with approximately 2.3 million dots for extremely accurate, true-to-life detail reproduction. “Standard” or “High” display quality settings are also available for both the viewfinder and monitor as well. It also is capable of seamlessly transferring files to a smartphone, tablet, computer or FTP server via Wi-Fi^®, while also offering a SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.1 Gen 1) USB Type-C™ Terminal for increased flexibility in power supply and faster image transfer speed during tethered shooting.

The α7 III model also comes with Sony’s new software suite “Imaging Edge”, which extends the creative capabilities of the entire shooting process – from pre-processing to post-processing. “Imaging Edge” provides three PC applications called ‘Remote’, ‘Viewer’ and ‘Edit’, available for free download, which support live-view PC remote shooting and RAW development. In the latest Version 1.1, several improvements have been implemented including about 10%[1] faster data transfer speed for remote shooting from PC (PC tether shooting) and approximately 65%[2] improvement in the response speed for RAW image editing. Top Indonesian martial arts talent Stefer Rahardian impressed in his ONE Championship debut by winning the ONE: TITLES & TITANS Flyweight Tournament in August of 2016. Rahardian finished both Yotha Hutagalung and Hendrick Wijaya by first round rear-naked choke to become the tournament winner. Since then, Rahardian has blazed a trail in the ONE Championship cage in an amazing run as a professional. In his last outing, Rahardian outperformed Pakistan’s Muhammad Imran to win by unanimous decision. Still unbeaten at a perfect 8-0, Rahardian puts his unblemished record on the line against Himanshu Kaushik in a strawweight contest.

Indian bantamweight contender Himanshu Kaushik is set to make his ONE Championship debut at ONE: GRIT AND GLORY. Kaushik has competed mostly in his native India, showcasing a solid set of striking and grappling skills. A striking specialist, Kaushik also owns a wushu record of 71-7. Kaushik’s promotional debut will be anything but easy however, as he faces surging Indonesian martial arts talent Stefer Rahardian in a three-round strawweight bout.

Former ONE Middleweight World Champion Vitaly Bigdash of Rostov-on-Don, Russia, has proven to be one of the most talented martial artists in the world. Making his ONE Championship debut in 2015, Bigdash captured the middleweight title with a resounding technical knockout victory over Igor Svirid, in one of the most action-packed contests in ONE Championship history. In his last bout, Bigdash succumbed to Myanmar hero “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang, surrendering his middleweight belt in the process. Bigdash is ready to make his highly-anticipated return and looks to climb back up the division ladder. He faces former ONE world title challenger Leandro Ataides next.

Leandro Ataides of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a 31-year-old martial arts veteran who owns a professional record of 10-3, with only three of Ataides’ victories reaching the final bell. In his last bout, Ataides scored his second victory in a row, defeating former ONE world title challenger Michal Pasternak by unanimous decision in a three-round middleweight contest.The hard-charging Ataides is a force to be reckoned with at middleweight, and will look to excite the crowd by once more against former middleweight titleholder Vitaly Bigdash.

Kotetsu “No Face” Boku, although originally from South Korea, is a Japanese martial arts veteran and the former ONE Lightweight World Champion. With more than 30 professional bouts on his resume, Boku has the experience of a seasoned professional and has seen it all inside the cage. Always a crowd pleaser, Boku utilizes his dynamic boxing background with stunning knockout power to subdue his opponents. In his next bout, Boku aims to put on a show once again opposite Rafael Nunes.

30-year-old Rafael “Indio” Nunes is a martial artist from Sao Paulo, Brazil with a 11-1 professional record. He is the former Premier FC Lightweight Champion and has steamrolled through the competition in his home country with a knack for winning by exciting finish. All but one of Nunes’ 11 wins have ended within the distance. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, Nunes is equally comfortable finishing his opponents by submission or by strikes. He looks to showcase his multifaceted skill set in his next bout, and will face a tough challenge when he takes on veteran Kotetsu Boku.

Female martial artist Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol of Jakarta, Indonesia, is an Indonesian national wushu champion who has trained in various striking disciplines such as kickboxing and wushu. The 29-year-old made her ONE Championship debut against Singapore’s Tiffany Teo at ONE: THRONE OF TIGERS in February 2017, joining a growing list of elite female martial artists in Asia. Lumban Gaol, a striking specialist with a wushu record of 15-5, will look to extend her two-bout winning streak to three in her next appearance inside the ONE Championship cage, when she takes on Rome Trinidad.

20-year-old Rome “The Rebel” Trinidad of Manila, Philippines is set to return to action in her second appearance inside the ONE Championship cage. The atomweight competitor is a practitioner of Sikaran, an ancient martial arts discipline which originated from Rizal province in the Philippines. With no written history, Sikaran was passed on from generation to generation by succession. A former National Sikaran Champion training out of Elorde Gym, Trinidad is ready to showcase her skills to the world. She takes on rising Indonesian martial arts star Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol.

Victorio “Indra” Senduk of Bandung, Indonesia is an unbeaten featherweight contender and former IBC Featherweight Champion. Sporting an unblemished professional record of 7-0, Senduk is a proven knockout artist with heavy hands. Featuring a background in wushu and kickboxing, Senduk is a striker with an aggressive style. In his most recent bout, Senduk stopped veteran Yohan Mulia Legowo via second-round technical knockout. Representing Gorilla Fight Club, Senduk is set to face Sor Sey.

A prominent member of Cambodian Top Team, Sor Sey of Phnom Penh is one of the most talented Cambodian martial artists to showcase his skills inside the ONE Championship cage. A Kun Khmer practitioner with tremendous striking skills and a Kun Khmer record of 145-47-11, Sor Sey made his promotional debut at ONE: KINGDOM OF KHMER, defeating countryman Chim Chetra by second-round technical knockout. Sor Sey now returns to competition and will face a rising star from Indonesia, Victorio Senduk.

22-year-old Eliyas “Malaku Warrior” Latupeirissa of Jakarta, Indonesia is set to make his ONE Championship debut. The top Indonesian martial arts prospect who represents Tigershark Fighting Academy is known as a boxing stylist and a powerful puncher. He will be facing countryman Dodi Mardian in a flyweight contest in his first appearance inside the ONE Championship cage.

Indonesia’s Dodi “The Maung” Mardian is a silat practitioner and an Indonesian combat sports veteran. Also skilled in the arts of Muay Thai and sanda, Mardian made his cage debut in 2016 after deciding to showcase his talent on the biggest stage of competition. The 33-year-old is looking to make a name for himself in ONE Championship, as he seeks to put his skills to the test in the world’s toughest proving ground for martial arts. In his next contest, Mardian will take on Eliyas Latupeirissa.

30-year-old Radeem Rahman is a former Singapore Muay Thai champion and striking specialist. He made his ONE Championship debut in September of 2011, as part of the historic first-ever ONE Championship event, ONE: CHAMPION VS CHAMPION, defeating Susovan Ghosh by first-round technical knockout. After a long break from competition, Rahman is ready to resume his professional career, and will make his highly-anticipated return to the ONE Championship cage against Tang De Pan.

25-year-old Tang De Pan of Changsha, China, is a sanda practitioner and is currently unbeaten as a professional in martial arts. A former Chinese National Wrestling Champion, Tang is highly-aggressive and relentless, always looking for the quick finish. Making his ONE Championship debut in January of 2016, Tang defeated countryman Zhou Biao with a highlight-reel knockout by slamming his opponent emphatically to the mat. In his most recent contest, Tang defeated Asraful Islam by unanimous decision. His next assignment is against Radeem Rahman.
29-year-old Doan Birawa of Solo, Indonesia is a martial artist competing in ONE Championship’s fast-growing strawweight division. The Han Fight Academy prospect is adept in both boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and features solid striking and grappling skills. Making his professional debut, Birawa is set to step foot inside the ONE Championship cage opposite countryman Riski Umar.

Striking specialist Riski “Kong” Umar is a 25-year-old ONE Championship strawweight contender from Ternate, Indonesia. A Muay Thai and taekwondo practitioner, Umar hones his talent out of Bali MMA alongside other world-class martial arts such as Gianni Subba and Andrew Leone. Known for his toughness and superior striking skill, Umar is set to return in his fourth appearance inside the ONE cage, this time against Doan Birawa.

The story charts a tale of romance and mystery as young soprano Christine is pit together in a love triangle with the titular Phantom and childhood sweetheart Raoul, the Vicomte de Chagny, at the Paris Opera House. Leading the musical concert as the male singer is Michael Cormick, an internationally renowned singer and actor with a diverse career throughout Australia, the UK and Europe. Michael played the romantic lead of Raoul in the London West End production for three years and toured with “The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber” as the principle cast singing Phantom’s songs. He has also stared in The Woman In White, Calamity Jane, Chess, Evita, Romeo & Juliet and more. Michael is also featured as a guest performer in the Royal Command performances in London and the opening of the Christmas Festival at Royal Albert Hall.

Holding her own next to Michael is Claire Lyon, an Australian actress, singer and recording artiste, who has played the role of Christine in the World Tour of the musical from 2012-2015. She also continued the role in its standalone sequel ‘Love Never Dies’ for the Australian National Tour as both an understudy and a performer. She toured Australia and New Zealand with international superstar Josh Groban as his guest artist for his World Tour ‘Stages Live’. She has also recently performed in concert alongside Australian theatre legends David Hobson. Claire’s Australia credits include the lead role Mabel in the Broadway version of The Pirates of Penzance which earned her a Green Room Award nomination.

These two gifted performers will belt out tunes under the leadership of Australian music director Bernard Walz. Bernard is a protégé of the late Dr Tommy Tycho and conducting student of the late Professor John Hopkins. Walz has even toured with the original Phantom, Michael Crawford, and has performed internationally for the past 25 years. A classically-trained pianist, Bernard’s concert and cabaret performances cross the boundaries between classical and popular genres. He is critically admired by his peers for his highly developed sense of theatre and engaging on-stage personality.
