Korean Traditional Fusion With K-POP Twist TO Thrill The Crowds At AMF

VSTAR 1

V.STAR, a young South Korean female group who were finalist in KOREA’S GOT TALENT of 2012 will be performing at the Asia Music Festival to be held on the 4 & 5 October in Miri, Sarawak.

This band has gained a reputation among the emerging South Korean young bands. Their style can be identified as the new traditional Korean mixture, as they play their music using traditional Korean music instruments, whether in original compositions or through new arrangements of famous Korean and Western covers. Their style is thus based on merging both Gugak traditions (Korean ethnic music) and modern sounds.

V.STAR comprises Gwan Jihye, playing the traditional Gayageum (Korean zither, modified into twelve strings), joined by the percussionist Kan Keun Hwa, playing Janggu (double headed drum with a narrow waist in the middle), Heejin Park playing the Daegeum (Korean flute), and Ellie Kim singing Pansori (Korean dramatic melodies), Ellie also plays a second Gayageum and the  keyboards in some shows.VSTAR 3

The inaugural Asia Music Festival (AMF) will showcase no less than 15 really talented Asian artists. V.STAR will also feature Kamal Musallam, a prominent Middle Eastern artist. The partnership between Kamal and V.STAR has resulted in beautifully merging the traditional Korean music within a rich musical context full of elements from Asian music, Jazz and Rock and much more. All to bring the music to another Fusion level. The two groups of artistes wanted to show the world the power and beauty of Korean Gugak and how it can communicate with other musical traditions and styles.

Other than V.STAR band, the first edition of Asia Music Festival will also feature Bembol Rockers (Philippines), Anthony Dassan Yen Party Band (South India),  Orkes Soesah Tideor (Indonesia), Foxy Girls (Indonesia), Boy Thai Band (Thailand), Tritha (North India) and Fakhrul Razi (Brunei).

There will also be bands and singers from Malaysia and among them are Melissa Francis, Starlet Band, The Mountain Wind Band, Hevance Band and Sarawak very own Bob from the famous Malaysian TV program, Akademi Fantasia.

Pertempuran Penyanyi Rap Dalam “WORD”

word

LAMB OF GOD Live In Malaysia Has Been Cancelled

It is with utmost regret that we announce the cancellation of the Rockaway showcase that was to feature the Grammy-nominated band, Lamb of God on September 28 in Kuala Lumpur. This difficult decision was made after thorough deliberation by all of us at Livescape and taking into account the objections raised by various groups. As a live music events agency that prides itself in being proudly Malaysian, we would also like to state on record that we respect all cultural and religious sensitivities and under no circumstances will we ever consciously put on a show that would upset our fellow Malaysians.

Which is why today, together with Lamb of God, we have made a conscious decision to break our silence, as we feel we owe it to Malaysians to explain our’s and the band’s position and to add clarity on some comments that has been made against us and the band.As citizens of a democratic nation, we respect all opinions, comments and views that have been made. However, we believe that there also needs to be a clear and open dialogue between the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), the various NGOs, and us, live music promoters in Malaysia. We find it absolutely unnecessary to issue a statement directly to the media without first even allowing us to explain or to justify our position and reasons. Moving forward, we politely ask that JAKIM and the various NGOs engage in a dialogue with us promoters to seek our explanation prior to passing judgement or releasing statements to the media.

Needless to say, the fans and us promoters aren’t the only ones affected. When a show of this scale – which was due to happen in a couple of weeks – is cancelled, the economic fallout can be damaging. Yes, we’ve lost our venue booking and artist deposit fees and not to mention, the lost of marketing expenditures but more importantly, it also affects the industry as a whole as our sound, lights, stage, production, and security crew, all of which are hired as third-party suppliers, have now lost potential income.

Having also read various statements and remarks by groups opposing the performance of the band in Malaysia, it is our belief that the Metal genre has been greatly misunderstood. Some of the statements that have been made were also assumptious and misinterpreted. To clarify, Lamb of God does not include any Black Metal elements into their music. The band’s genre has always been about metalcore, groove metal or heavy metal. It is also important to note that there are vast differences between Black Metal and other genres.

As one columnist from The Star (Heavy Metal Misunderstood, 1 July 2013) rightly puts it, “Just because something is different and loud and brash, it doesn’t mean it’s evil or means you harm”. Most metal bands – Lamb of God included – tend to speak out against various types of oppressions and social injustice, spreading the message of peace. In a world plagued with various issues, we believe that music has the power to draw us closer together as humans. Whether it is HipHop, Pop, R&B, EDM, Rock or even Metal, music draws people of various cultural backgrounds together instead of driving them apart. That is our belief, and is what drives all of us at Livescape to do what we do – to unite people through music.

To the fans, we say this – we are sorry. We have given our all and have fought the hardest we could for this show to go on and have failed. Like you, we were counting the days to finally see Lamb of God put on a show for Malaysians on Malaysian soil. We failed. But we have heard your voices and we can’t thank you enough for your messages of support.

Over the coming days, we will be announcing details for refunds to those of you who have bought tickets to the show on September 28.  Refunds can be redeemed from September 16 onwards. We ask that you stay logged on to our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/rockawayfest for more information on refund outlets. Alternatively, if you had bought tickets to the show on September 28, those tickets are also valid for entry to our second showcase on October 17 that will feature Enter Shikari and Bring Me The Horizon. The show on October 17 is not affected and will go on as scheduled.

FUTURE MUSIC FESTIVAL ASIA Is Back Bigger And Better Than Ever For 2014

Purveyors of live music, Future Entertainment Australia and Livescape Asia has gotten the ball rolling for the much anticipated music festival next year, Future Music Festival Asia (FMFA) – slated to be the largest music gathering Southeast Asia will ever see – by confirming its return to Malaysia in 2014.

The festival next year will take place from 13 – 15 March 2014 at a yet to be disclosed location. Organizers, Livescape Asia however hinted at the possibility of hosting the festival next year closer to city.

“There’s not much we can reveal apart from confirming that FMFA next year will return to Kuala Lumpur in 2014. However, what we can definitively say is that the festival next year is going to be even bigger than the last. If you think last year was epic, wait till you see FMFA in 2014. We have got a line-up that is going to blow everyone’s minds away”, Jason Kong, Head of PR, Livescape Asia said.

“We have even extended FMFA this year to three days, that’s how massive it’s going to be. In addition, after receiving numerous requests from fans for the festival to be held closer to the city, what I can say is that, we have heard them, and FMFA in 2014 will most likely have a new home. So again, we are expecting a sold-out show next year. In fact, we will be placing even more emphasis on the comfort of our festival-goers and have decided to cap each day to a maximum of 25,000 attendees”, Kong added.

The epic Future Music Festival Asia, which thrilled crowds of over 55,000 in March this year, has been dubbed as the largest music festival to ever hit Southeast Asian shores. Malaysia is the only country to ever host Future Music Festival outside of Australia. Future Music Festival Asia 2014 is organized by Future Entertainment Australia and Livescape Asia Sdn. Bhd. and is supported by the Malaysian Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MYCEB).

Over 75,000 revellers are expected to attend the festival next year of which, organizers are expecting an influx of over 20,000 foreign fans. According to Kong, the rapid growth of FMFA as a regionally renowned festival is credited to the various sponsors and partners especially MYCEB and the Ministry of Tourism who have been key in working with the organizers to position Malaysia as a world-class live music destination in the region.

“Today, with the support of our partners and sponsors we are proud to have fans from not only Malaysia, but also across the Asian region including some from as far off as Europe who are marking FMFA on their calendars on a yearly basis. The last thing we want is to disappoint them, so together with our counterparts at Future Entertainment Australia, we have been working very hard in the past few months while learning from feedback from the fans to put together a festival to remember in 2014. And we are sure we won’t disappoint”, Kong said.

The full line-up for the festival in Kuala Lumpur will be revealed at a press conference on October 3. Future Music Festival Australia will be announcing its own line-up on September 16 (FMF Australia and FMFA’s line-ups tend to differ).

To coincide with the launch and line-up announcement of Future Music Festival Asia on October 3, Future Music Festival Asia will be launching a limited amount of tickets for sale at 3.00PM, September 28 at Rock Corner, The Gardens, Midvalley. These tickets will be sold at a bargain of only RM88 for a three-day festival pass (limited to 500 tickets; 1 ticket per customer).
