Korean history’s most well known royal concubine, Jang Huibin, is infamous for her ruthless pursuit of power. In fact, the Joseon dynasty femme fatale has been brought to life in nine different adaptations of her real life story which allege that she resorted to voodoo-like rituals to invoke death upon the reigning Queen Inhyeon and ill-treated her own son. Yet, the most interesting adaptation with a truly unique perspective of Jang comes to us in this latest Korean drama series that is titled after the concubine’s birth name, Jang Ok Jung.

Premiering on 6 May and airing on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8.55pm first and exclusively on ONE, Jang Ok Jung sets itself apart from previous works by adapting the Korean novel ‘Jang Ok Jung, Live for Love’ by Choi Jung Mi. It downplays the political intrigue surrounding Jang and tells the story of her gift for fashion design and cosmetics of her time, as she ascends from being a seamstress in the palace to the very top of the Korean court as the King’s love.

In Jang Ok Jung, Jang is set to struggle against the stifling caste system of 17^th century Korea. It will also trace the romantic relationship between King Sukjong and Jang, amidst the rivalry amongst the Queen and concubines for the monarch’s affections.

Jang Ok Jung features actress-model Kim Tae Hee (Stairway to Heaven, Love Story in Havard) in her first role in a period drama as Jang. The 33 year old, once dubbed ‘South Korea’s most beautiful woman’ by the media, is the perfect candidate to play the historical figure of Jang Huibin who was considered the most beautiful woman of the Joseon dynasty. She caught the eye of King Sukjong who made her his concubine and eventually Queen, and even bore him a son, Gyeongjong, to succeed the throne.

Starring opposite Kim is Yoo Ah In (Fashion King, Punch) who plays a charismatic and romantic King Sukjong, which is a departure from the historically indecisive and weak monarch of past adaptations. No stranger to period dramas, Jang Ok Jung is the third series the 27 year old has taken on in his career thus far. Historically, King Sukjong was younger than Jang, and with Kim being six years older than Yoo, the two lead roles are perfectly and realistically cast, as intended by the series producers.

Fans of female K-pop group ‘KARA’ can look out for Han Seung-yeon in her role as Choi Suk Bin, rival concubine and mother of young future king Yeong-jo. Also members of the key cast are Hong Soo Hyun (Salaryman Cho Han Ji) as Queen Inhyeon and Jae Hee (Witch Yoo Hee, Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang) plays Hyun Chi Soo, Jang’s first love that is determined to win her back.

Helmed by director Boo Sung-cheol of My Girlfriend is Gumiho and Star’s Lover fame, production of Jang Ok Jung commenced in early March 2013, initially at the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace in Suwon, South Korea. Promising lavish sets and elaborate period costumes, the series is also set against the backdrop of flowers blooming in the Korean spring, although the cast is braving the cold during shoots.

With a great cast bringing to life a truly different revisionist tale of Korean history’s most notorious member of royalty, the stage is set for Jang Huibin to be seen as never before in Jang Ok Jung, only on ONE!

Sarawak Tourism Board today announced the full line-up for the 8^th edition of Borneo Jazz that is set to take place at Parkcity Everly Hotel in Miri, Sarawak from 10-11 May this year. This year’s festival will be the most diverse in term of musical genres that would cater to all types of jazz fans.Dubbed to be among the prestigious Jazz Festival in Malaysia and set to draw bigger number of festivalgoers this year, the festival will see for the first time, the energetic spicy groovy funk group from Germany, Mo’Blow who are described by Berliner Zeitung as “one of the hottest live bands”. The other international act confirmed is Hazmat Modine from the East-Coast of USA. Their song “Bahamut” will be used on the Fox television show “So You Think You Can Dance?.

The other international acts confirmed for the Borneo Jazz this year include, the energetic and toe-tapping music by Jump4Joy from Sweden that is popular energy entertainment group with a strong New Orleans flavor. A capella jazz group from Canada, The Nylons well known for their slick performance and most heralded vocal groups in the world with seven gold and platinum records. Represented by members from Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines and Thailand, The Asian Jazz All Stars Power Quarter is the big names of the Asian jazz circle, which consists of the most innovative and exciting drummers to emerge in the Asian jazz scene. Scott Martin Latin Soul Band from West-Coast of USA has performed all over the world with many artists but best known for his successful tenure winning a Grammy. Last but not least, the ethno jazz musician and artist from Australia, Lisa Young Quartet the winner of “Best Australian Jazz Vocal Album 2007” and was re-nominated in 2012.

As the Borneo Jazz name suggest, the organizer wish that the Borneo element to be presented by the local talent on this international platform. Deserved to be on stage will be the West Jazz Band from Sarawak who will play the fusion jazz and everything from Swing to Latin to electrifying funk jazz music.Organiser is expecting an influx of 9,000 fans from both local and international for this year’s two-days festival. This will thus augur well for the local business community and also contribute to a significant number of visitor’s arrivals into Sarawak as a whole. The festival will also have stalls selling a wide variety of local and fusion food and beverages as well as stalls selling festival memorabilia at the venue.

Sinopsis

Aditya, yang tampan, memiliki seorang cewek idaman di sekolah yang bernama Kimmy. Tetapi Kimmy sudah berpacaran dengan Chris, Aditya hanya memendam perasaannya. Kimmy menerima Chris sebagai balas budi karena sudah membantu biaya operasi penyakit paru-paru ibunya. Sedangkan Broki yang berasal dari keluarga Betawi asli, senantiasa heboh dan kocak. Sedangkan Reza tergila-gila pada kamera. Ia suka merekam apa saja, karena ingin menjadi sutradara. Reza dekat dengan Adel, yang juga senang merekam kegiatannya dengan kamera.

Suatu ketika, Aditya beserta Citra, adik Aditya mengamati langit menunggu munculnya hujan meteor dari rumah mereka. Tetapi kemudian Aditya keluar rumah dengan mengajak Broki dan Reza, lantaran ia tidak tahan dengan pertengkaran kedua orang tuanya. Saat sedang serius membahas persoalan keluarga Aditya, sebuah meteor jatuh di hutan tak jauh di belakang mereka. Mereka terkejut. Karena penasaran, mereka pun meninjau lokasi jatuhnya meteor tersebut. Terlihat meteor masih utuh terbenam separohnya di tanah. Saat terkagum-kagum menyaksikan meteor, tiba-tiba meteor memancarkan cahaya terang menyilaukan dan menyebabkan mereka bertiga terlempar dan sempat tak sadarkan diri. Keesokan harinya, Aditya, Reza, dan Broki merasakan keanehan pada diri mereka masing-masing. Mereka dapat menggerakkan benda-benda tanpa sentuhan fisik. Mereka bahkan mampu memindahkan benda-benda dengan tatapan mata. Awalnya mereka bingung, namun mereka mencoba beradaptasi. Bagaimanakah kisah petualangan mereka bertiga?.. apakah kekuatan “magic” juga dimiliki oleh orang lain selain mereka?..
